Mbodj

The bulk of this new body of work is derived from my recent visit to Senegal, West Africa, visiting my sister who was a volunteer in the Peace Corps.

The experience of traveling through the country, canoeing through the mangroves and staying in her rural host village had a profound effect and left me thoughtful about the differences and similarities between our two cultures. The people, sights, sounds, textures and smells directly and indirectly informed these works. This combined with my ever-broadening approach to composing sculpture, has created pieces that I hope will act as catalysts to tell stories and share experiences while standing individually as beautiful and curious objects.
