Welcome
to Suri Iron.
Working with metal requires a great deal of embodied energy, from the initial refining of raw and reclaimed ingredients to the final forging and finishing of the metal into exquisite, durable and permanent pieces of art.
I focus on working with clients, designers and architects to create thoughtfully designed and unique sculpture and architectural objects. I utilize many metalworking processes, both antiquated and modern, incorporating a variety of materials such as steel, stainless steel, copper, bronze, glass and wood.
My style of sculpting is additive. I take materials rich with color and texture, manipulate, assemble then patina them with intent to draw out the emotional quality within. By varying fit, finish, line and shape, it is my goal to orchestrate sculpture with dynamic presence. My sculptures are meant as abstracted stills from the corners everyday life using both familiar and foreign texture and line to invoke a contemplative and inspired response. My functional designs utilize these same details to craft architectural components and furniture that feels familiar and intriguing while effectively performing its intended function. Over the years I have applied my ever-broadening experience to influence my process and projects. Projects both large and small continue to aid me in my quest for understanding of how we communicate the subtle details, which make the big picture. Art helps me to explore the intricacies of the world and focus me through daily practice.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or thoughts about existing work, to discuss special projects - functional or abstract, or to receive updates about current projects or exhibitions.
Thanks and enjoy the work.
